Model Approach for Binder Selection in Binder Jetting

Three binders, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyvinylpyrrolidone, and polyacrylic acid (PAA), are studied to elucidate the principal fundamental features giving rise an excellent binder in a polymer–stainless-steel particle array, used context of jetting. Using out-of-printer screening approach, samples were compared based on compression tests, specifically 0.2% yield strength as function void volume fill factor, ϕ, leading quasi-sigmoidal generalized curve for green body development. PVA demonstrated strong tendency form inter-particle bridges at low ϕ highest strength, while PAA exhibited lower weak exponential strength. This paper relates these behaviors polymer capillary properties, polymer–metal interactions ultimately provides rigorous selection process efficacy.
